CHIMPEE - SAN JUAN CITY, PHILIPPINES

1. ANO ANG MASASABI MO SA TRABAHO MO NGAYONG MAY COVID-19 BILANG FRONTLINER?

Being an occupational health nurse, we are also at the frontline of COVID-19 outbreak response and such as performing rapid tests and RT PCR tests. We are also exposed to hazards that put us at risk of infection. Hazards include pathogen exposure, long working hours, physical and psychological distress, fatigue, occupational burnout, stigma.

2. SAAN KA HUMUHUGOT NG INSPIRASYON?

God, family and my kids were my inspiration and anchor.

3. ANO YUNG EXPERIENCE MO NA HINDI MAKAKALIMUTAN SA TRABAHO HABANG KASAGSAGAN NG COVID-19?

HCW discrimination as if you were positive of the disease. People tend to walk away and whispers every time you passed by.

It was very comforting to know they were inspired by our words of encouragement every time they knew they were positive. We give them health teaching and proper safety and health protocols during their quarantine period. Sometimes simple thank you letter, simple gesture means a lot!

4. ANO YUNG GUSTO MO SABIHIN SA MGA KASAMA MO NA FRONTLINER NA LUMALABAN SA COVID-19?

I just want to say to all Frontliners that God is always with us because more than this profession, it is a calling. Keep body and spirit healthy. Always pray and keep the faith. Salute to all Frontliners! We heal, we recover as one! If you are a COVID-19 patient, other than the medication from the hospital, you need to eat more healthy foods and take complete rest to regain your strength. Avoid over-thinking and worrying. Keep your faith over your fears, and trust God completely. Talk to Him every day to keep you strong and fighting. Be thankful to all the Frontliners who heartily serve us. And, always stay connected with your family and loved ones. This pandemic reminds all of us of what the most essential things in our lives are – our relationship with God, our family, and the love we give.

5. ANO ANG GUSTO MONG IPAALALA SA MGA TAO NA NAKAKABASA NG MESSAGE MO NGAYON?

I really wish the general public could see the things we, doctors see in the hospital. Maybe they would be much less cavalier about not wearing their masks and making unnecessary social visits and gatherings. Maybe if you see our patients with scared eyes as they gasp for breath and eventually end up on the ventilator, you'll understand why us healthcare workers are upset. The scared relatives as we pound on their loved one's chest when his/her heart stops. The scared healthcare workers who just put a tube into the airway of a patient who could then very well have passed COVID-19 to them and downstream to their families. It upsets me greatly that people continue to make unnecessary social visits, linger, stick to one another and remove their masks without thinking. People who think that, "Well, I feel okay so maybe a little visit or meeting couldn't hurt." People who insist that the virus is "weakening" as global cases and deaths spike. There is no reasoning with this virus. You can't bribe, threaten, or cheat it. It only takes ONE lapse and it’s there. People are DYING. We KNOW better. Put the mask on, keep your distance, and stay at home unless it's absolutely necessary. Otherwise, we might see you or your loved ones in the hospital. And none of us want that to happen.
