Ronnie Del Barrio is a patriot, model, actor, and entrepreneur, best known as one of the founders of award-winning Lahing Kayumanggi Dance Company (LK) in Europe. Encouraged by his late mother, he followed his dream to become a dancer and gained scholarship with the Manila Metropolis Ballet (under the directorship of Tony Fabella and Eddie Elijar) and CCP Ballet School and achieved a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education at the Philippine Normal University (PNU).
While at PNU he joined the Philippine Baranggay Folk Dance Troupe (PBFTD) under the leadership of its founder Dr. Paz Cielo A Belmonte, where he gained status as one of their principal dancers and later became Associate Choreographer on the troupe’s world tours during the late 1980s. It was during this time his passion for Philippine folk dance truly flourished and laid the foundation for his later work with LK spanning nearly two decades since its formation in 1994. LK received the Presidential Banaag Awards in 2006 “in recognition of its unwavering dedication to artistic excellence, raising the cultural awareness and ethnic pride of the Filipino community in the United Kingdom, and supporting cultural and humanitarian activities in the Philippines”. A move to the United Kingdom in 1991 to pursue a career on the West End stage soon landed him contracts in shows such as ‘Hey Mr Producer’, ‘Miss Saigon’ and ’Rocky Horror Show’. His work as a stage performer led to work as an agent and casting director on various TV/film projects. In 2012 he received “ABS-CBN Gener Lopez Bagong Bayani Award” in Europe. He was born and raised in Tondo, Manila, where he attended school. He is also a member of the Order of Knights of Rizal, London Chapter UK.
